DIVERSION GRADUATES 2020
24 June 2020
At this moment, our diversion programme is most actively implemented in Chikwawa/Nchalo/Ngabu and Blantyre. In Blantyre, the groups mainly consists of young persons who are referred to us via the Child court, and to a lesser account via police stations.
Due to the risks of the Corona-virus, we take active precautionary measures to guarantee the safety of our young participants and their families. We work with smaller groups and have increased the number of individual trajectories. Since January, 29 students have successfully graduated.
MIKUYU 'CHRISTMAS DINNER'
15 december 2018
A tradition by now: our Mikuyu Christmas activity. A combination of the graduation, Civic Education, activities by the inmates, disco and for once a different meal: rice, egg, vegetables and a bit of meat. In itself nothing special, but a small treat, if you normally daily eat nsima with nandolo. All boys also received soap. As such they could feel at least a small sense of Christmas.

PRISON GRADUATES 2020
24 June 2020
Normally, Byounique offers 4 counselling program in the young offenders prisons and 2 in the Chikwawa and Mangochi prisons, where we specifically target the young offenders. Regrettably, due to Corona, 3 prisons had to temporarily close their doors to visitors, including the Byounique teams, starting april 2020. In Bvumbwe, we could however continue our program, as we can use a wide space that enables safe social distance. This is further assisted as we have reduced our group size, Despite these measures, we still managed to successfully counsel 40 young offenders. We have high hopes that we can counsel at least the same number during the coming months, while safeguarding our youths via precautionary measures.
